Green transformation is not only a trend and a need, but also an investment for the future. This is why many
financial institutions, both domestic and foreign, are increasingly interested in
in financing environmental and sustainability projects.
What financial mechanisms can help raise funds for green transformation? One of them
are grants provided by institutions such as the WFOŚiGW. Marek Subocz, President of the Management Board of WFOŚiGW in
Szczecin, emphasises that their activities are primarily focused on improving environmental protection and
sustainable development, and they finance various pro-environmental activities in the form of subsidies, loans or
support programmes, such as “Clean Air”.
The director of BGK’s Strategic Relations Department, Joanna Smolik, in turn points out that the
transformation concerns not only businesses, but also our homes. BGK’s focus is on supporting the
economy, not just pure profit. Funding for transformation is available on both the
domestic as well as overseas, and projects both small and large are likely to receive funding.
Bank Ochrony Środowiska S.A.’s vice-president of the management board, Robert Kasprzak, notes that spending on green
transformation are increasingly being treated as an investment rather than a cost. Financial institutions are increasingly
interested in financing green projects that contribute to energy independence
energy independence and lowering costs in the future.
Piotr Matczuk, Country Officer of the World Bank – IFC, emphasises that green transformation is for the World Bank a
World Bank as its guiding and most important theme. The IFC is the largest international financial institution
financial institution, financing the energy sector worldwide.
As Marcin Dypczynski from the Centre for European Projects explains, financial institutions have changed their
approach and have started to pay more attention to the needs of citizens. The whole information system is also changing –
all applicants can obtain comprehensive information on available forms of support and funding.
All applicants are consulted and guided through the application process.
Is inflation a deterrent in the fight for funding? The answer is clearly – no. As Piotr Smolik explains,
however, it is more difficult to achieve the rates of return required by investors. A major inflationary factor
is energy costs, which is why banks assume that energy prices are more or less correlated with the level of
inflation, which means that higher interest rates will be compensated by theoretically higher revenues.
Investments today are challenges, not threats, says Łukasz Kasprzak. We are operating in a
completely different geopolitical environment than just a few years ago. Today, investments are supposed to ensure
security and economic stability, with inflationary issues receding into the background. Banks are not
complain about the volume of applications, but about their capacity to handle the new investment themes that are emerging.
As Joanna Matczuk points out, inflation has to be seen contextually, and these contexts are many, including
including energy prices. Inflation is one of many elements in the evaluation of investment projects.
Marcin Dybczynski points out that financing institutions are forced to increase costs, but are
prepared to bear the increased inflationary costs within their financial backyard.
Katarzyna Subocz, on the other hand, notes that she still sees a lot of interest in the subject of loans, both for
individual customers as well as entrepreneurs. Difficult times bring interesting solutions, and crises
pass.
As Piotr Smolik concludes, the current times call for well-thought-out, coherent and intensive measures to
modernisation of the Polish economy, which will be resistant to various geopolitical shocks. Łukasz Kasprzak
adds that we are living in interesting times, where we are experiencing environmental transformation and in many areas of
technologies to which financial institutions must adapt.
Two days filled with meetings, more than thirty debates, round-table discussions, motivating power speeches, dozens of Polish and foreign experts – this is how the largest environmental event in Central and Eastern Europe – the TOGETAIR 2023 International Climate Summit – is presented. The event takes place at the University of Warsaw Library on 20-21 April. TOGETAIR 2023 has received prestigious patronage from Polish and foreign institutions, including the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, and the Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki.
