Ignacy Niemczycki

Secretary of State in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister of Poland

Ignacy Niemczycki, on the recommendation of Minister for European Union Affairs Adam Szłapka, was appointed by Prime Minister Donald Tusk as Secretary of State in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.

Niemczycki graduated in sociology from the Warsaw School of Social Psychology and in political science from the School of Social Sciences (University of Lancaster). He holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from Bocconi University in Milan. Additionally, he completed postgraduate studies in agriculture at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) and ecological farming at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn. He is a fellow of the IVLP program from the U.S. Department of State and the Landecker Democracy Fellowship.

During his studies, Niemczycki founded the “Free Belarus Initiative” to support the fight for democracy in Belarus. He served as a board member of the Akcja Demokracja Foundation and led the Prof. Bronisław Geremek Centre Foundation. He also founded and coordinated the Front Europejski coalition of civil society organizations.

From 2008 to 2012, he worked in the government administration, including at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister (KPRM), the Office of the Committee for European Integration (UKIE), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MSZ), and the Polish Permanent Representation to the European Union in Brussels, where he was involved in negotiations for EU funds for Poland. From 2013 to 2015, he headed the European Affairs department at Polityka Insight. Between 2015 and 2017, he worked as a public affairs manager and interim director of international communications for a corporation. He also runs an ecological farm in Mazury.

From January to October 2024, Niemczycki served as Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Development and Technology. In the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, he oversees the Department of the European Union’s Economic Affairs and the Department of European Union Law.
